COVID-19 has been an enormous accelerator of the adoption of digital technologies. In 2020, adoption has taken a quantum leap: software has taken over the world. Not only software, but also CI/CD, infrastructure, and server management, whether physical or virtual, have become more critical for companies than ever before.
Puppet, the industry standard for infrastructure automation, reported last month that DevOps salaries last year increased around the world, despite widespread economic slowdowns and cross-industry layoffs. Companies, meanwhile, are struggling to find DevOps engineers, and demand is projected to grow consistently in the next 10 years. On LinkedIn, there are nearly 100,000 open DevOps positions in the US alone, and everywhere in Latin America, companies can’t find enough DevOps engineers to sustain their needs.
As a result, there is a massive opportunity to train DevOps practitioners. Investing in the field of DevOps makes a lot of sense for any tech career. Before Holberton, I was working at Docker, and my co-founder, Sylvain, was working as a Site Reliability Engineer at LinkedIn. So we knew this was an opportunity for Holberton School students, who already learn the basics during their first year. Given the accelerated growth of DevOps opportunities around the world, most visionary educational players began offering this opportunity to their students.
In Latin America, the DevOps trend is accelerating. Last year, Anahuac University, one of the most prestigious institutions of higher-education in Mexico, asked us to help create a new DevOps certification program that would be accessible and flexible enough for everyone. Willing to build the next generation of the education system, Holberton embraced the opportunity to assist Anahuac in this process. For more people to have access to tech knowledge, we decided to partner with the best in the field, Puppet, to create this program.
With more than 50 years of history, Anahuac University is currently recognized as one of the 3 best universities in Mexico, according to the QS World University Rankings 2020, and has eight campuses around the country and five in the rest of the world. More than 90 thousand alumni attest to the mission of the Universidad Anáhuac: Contribute to the comprehensive training of positive action leaders and promote the development of the person and the society. The Anahuac educational model allows the integral development of the person by embracing the professional, intellectual, human, social, and spiritual dimensions, which well align with Holberton’s values and mission.
Today we are proud to announce that Anahuac University will launch its first DevOps certification using Holberton’s OS of Education, in June 2021. The program, called “DevOps Foundations: Software Development Optimization” (Certificación Profesional en DevOps Foundations: Software Development Optimization), includes 2 courses:
- DevOps: Foundations and tools
- DevOps CI/CD Pipeline: Automation from development to deployment
It is accessible via the EdX learning platform, an American massive open online course provider created by Harvard and MIT that hosts university-level courses online.
We are also happy to announce that Puppet is offering 20 scholarships for the Anahuac University DevOps program.
Anahuac University plans to train more than 5,000 persons in DevOps this year alone, thanks to this high-quality course. With Anahuac, we are able to continue on our mission to open doors for the many jobs of the 4th industrial revolution. We are looking forward to seeing Anahuac train the next generation of DevOps practitioners at scale in Latin America.
